Bellarmine offers students a college preparatory education that prepares them to succeed in a college environment and graduate from a four-year college. In order to achieve their mission of serving a diverse and inclusive community of students, Bellarmine College Prep offers the Magis Scholar Program. A Magis Scholar is an admitted Bellarmine student who is first-generation college-bound and qualifies for 90% or more of tuition assistance. Bellarmine targets young men of high character who demonstrate an aptitude to succeed academically.
In order to identify prospective students for the Magis Scholar Program, Bellarmine makes a broad geographic push, which includes San Mateo, East Palo Alto, Fremont, Milpitas, San Jose, Morgan Hill, and Gilroy. Bellarmine proactively reaches out to both parochial and public schools to identify potential students, with the aptitude to succeed academically, and enroll them in their middle school summer program for entering 6th-8th graders, with comprehensive tuition assistance. The summer program offers academic coursework, as well as enrichment seminars and athletic camps. Following up, Bellarmine conducts outreach specific to the application process and how to apply for tuition assistance.
Magis Scholars receive specialized academic counseling that identifies any academic challenges and then connects them with support through the Academic Resource Center. Personal counseling is also provided to ensure that Magis Scholars receive support and guidance with any non-academic issues and are successfully assimilating with the Bellarmine student body. In addition to tuition assistance, the program covers out-of-pocket expenses including books, the lunch and breakfast service, public transportation vouchers, passes for home games and events, testing fees for PSAT, SAT, ACT, and AP tests, and other miscellaneous costs. Bellarmine holds the same high expectations for all students and expects 100% of Magis Scholars to attend and graduate from a four-year college
